Professor Andrew Stockman

Professor Andrew Stockman is currently a Professor at University College London (UCL), Director of the Institute of Ophthalmology, and an Honorary Consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital. As an internationally renowned authority in vision science and an expert in color science and vision research, Professor Stockman has long focused on frontier research in ocular science and visual color.

The cone spectral sensitivity functions and photopic spectral luminous efficiency functions proposed by him have been adopted as international standards by the International Commission on Illumination (CIE). As the core foundation of vision and color science, these standards have significantly advanced the development of these disciplines and are widely applied in visual prediction and color calculation across related fields.

Professor Stockman is a Fellow of the Optical Society of America (OSA), the International Colour Vision Society (ICVS), and The Colour Group (Great Britain). He serves as Chair of the CIE Technical Committee TC1-104 and is the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Color Research and Application. He was awarded the Macbeth Award by the International Colour Association (AIC) in 2018 and the Newton Medal by The Colour Group (GB) in 2016.

The Color and Vision Research Laboratory, established by Professor Stockman at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology, has received funding from a range of prestigious organizations, including the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), the Wellcome Trust, Fight for Sight, and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
