Professor Ronnier Luo


Professor Ronnier Luo is a Qiushi Chair Professor at Zhejiang University. He is a Fellow of the Optical Society (OSA), the Society for Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T), and the Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC). He previously served as Vice President of the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) and currently chairs three CIE Technical Committees, including TC1-96 and TC1-99. Additionally, he serves as an Associate Editor for the international journals Color Research and Application and IEEE Photonics.


Professor Luo received his Ph.D. in Color Science from the University of Bradford, UK, in 1986. His research interests encompass Color Science (color appearance models, color difference models), Imaging Science (color management, image quality evaluation), and Lighting Engineering (smart solid-state lighting technology, light source quality evaluation, and research and application of healthy lighting). To date, he has published over 600 papers.


He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Encyclopedia of Color Science and Technology (published by Springer, 2016). In recognition of his contributions, Professor Luo has received numerous academic awards, including the prestigious AIC Judd Award (2017) for lifetime achievement from the International Colour Association (AIC) and the Newton Medal (2020).
